August 18 (Renewables Now) - Spanish utility company Endesa SA (BME:ELE) has started construction works on a 38.24-MWp solar plant in Soria province, central Spain.

Dubbed Eugenia, the photovoltaic (PV) park will require an investment of EUR 28 million (USD 28.5m), Endesa said on Wednesday. The group is building the solar farm, its first in the province, through its renewables arm Enel Green Power Espana.

Once in operation, the Eugenia plant will be capable of generating over 72.24 GWh per year, which is enough to meet the consumption of the whole province of Soria for three months, the utility said.

During the construction phase, Enel Green Power Espana will install solar panels at the site to cover part of its energy needs and put up tanks and rainwater collection systems to save water. This equipment will be donated to local entities in the vicinity of the plant once the construction work is done.
